Ayin (ע)

Ayin, the twenty-sixth path, connects Tiphareth and Hod. It is the character "Ay", "Au", "O", or "Ng"[1].

Ayin is one of the twelve simple letters, which represent astrological signs. The simple letters are secondary directions, the edges of the box, connecting its faces. Its attributions are:

Yetsiratic Attribution[3] Renovating Intelligence, because the Most High renews by it all the changing things which are renewed by the creation of the world.

[1]This is not strictly true. Hermetic Qabalists treat it this way, but in fact Ayin has no true sound of its own. Instead it takes the sound of whatever vowel belongs with it in the word in which it appears. Its connection with 'O' is possibly because Ο is the 16th letter of the Greek alphabet as ע is the 16th letter of the Alef-Bet, so their values by gematria are both 70. Its connection with 'Ng' is likely because ע is 'pronounced' by a slight constriction of the throat.
[2]עין, ayin, means eye
